SEVEN IN THE BOOKS (posted May 3rd, 2008) |
| DCIHL
Week 7 games were played at Namsun Ice Rink last night. The
first place logjam remains as both Da Beers and the Goon Squad
All-Stars lost in shoot-outs to remain tied at nine pouints
apiece. The Kimchi Comets and the Soju Soldiers (who depserately
needed a win) came out on top in their respective games, but
neither team could improve their positions in the standings.
Ken Vantour was the shootout hero in the first game lifting
his squad over the Goons for a well-deserved win. Shin Dae-Jin
of the Soju Soldiers got his revenge on Beers goalie Ed McEntee.
After being stoned by McEntee in a shootout in the first game
of the season, Shin put a beautiful move on McEntee to win
the game. Shin skated right to the edge of the crease and
delivered a difficult change-up that seemed to mesmerize McEntee
as the puck made its way, leisurely, into the net. Recaps
can be found here. |

SIX IN THE BOOKS (posted May 2nd, 2008) |
| DCIHL
Week 6 games were played two weeks ago at the Ice Rink in
Cheongju. The Goon Squad All-Stars defeated Da Beers to jump
into a tie for first place. The Soju Soldiers continued to
spiral out of control, dropping another game to the Kimchi
Comets. There was also a small shakeup in the scoring race
as Chris Goodman was bumped from the top four and replaced
by a surging Eric Bannerman.Recaps can be found here. |

FIVE IN THE BOOKS (posted April 5th, 2008) |
DCIHL
Week 5 games were played last night at Namsun Ice Rink in
Daejeon. The standings got a shake-up as the Goon Squad All-Stars
defeated the Soju Soldiers to jump into second place. The
second game was an entertaining tilt between the Kimchi Comets
and Da Beers. Despite a spirited effort by the Comets, they
were unable to take down Da Beers who held onto first place.

FOUR IN THE BOOKS (posted March 23rd, 2008) |
DCIHL
Week 4 games were played last night at the Ice Rink in Cheongju.
Da Beers came out on top in the battle for first by defeating
the Soju Soldiers 12-7. The Goon Squad All-Stars continued
their climb up the standings with a 7-2 win over the Kimchi
Comets. The All-Stars vs Comets game saw a league record set
when Mario Choi, 51, became the oldest multiple goal scorer
in league history. Late in the game, while on a two-on-one
with a hat trick in the balance, Mario chose to pass off to
his winger instead of going for his third goal himself. It
was a classy play. Way to go, Mario!
Recaps and Box Scores will be posted here.

THREE IN THE BOOKS (posted March 7th, 2008) |
DCIHL
Week 3 games were played last night at Namsun Ice Rink in
Daejeon. The first game proved to be very tight, with the
Soju Soldiers edging the Kimchi Comets late in the game for
the win. Comets goalie Ben Ramirez left the game with a fairly
serious knee injury and was replaced by Ricky Weldon for the
last five minutes.
In the second game, the Goon Squad All-Stars showed that they
were much better than the standings indicated by coming from
behind to defeat Da Beers. A goal by Park Tae Gill in the
last five minutes proved to be the difference.
Recaps and Box Scores will be posted here. |

ANNOUNCEMENT - POSSIBLE HOCKEY STRIKE (posted
February 29, 2008) |
|
Yesterday
we were informed by management at Namsun Ice Rink
that the ice time fee would be going up to 90,000
won per hour (from 77,000) on week nights. This is
an increase of around 16% which violates Korean law
which says no rental agreement may be increased in
price by more than 10% per year.
As a result, all of the hockey teams that use Namsun
Ice Rink (us, Eagles, Storm) will be cancelling our
ice time in protest. The ice time for this Friday
February 29th is still on as it is already paid for.
We'll see you at the rink and try to answer any questions
you have.
Next
weeks scheduled DCIHL games will be played in Cheongju
on Saturday March 8th. We
will let you know of further developments when they
happen.
