SEASON
FIVE - ROUND ONE COMPLETE
(posted March 7, 2010)
|
|
Season
5 got off to a magnificent start last Friday night in Daejeon.
If the first round results are any indication, this season
will be one of the tightest yet, and should provide some
exciting action and suprises along the way.
The
first game of the season saw the Iron Mullets scrape a 4
- 2 win over the Red Army, with Iron Mullets forward Eric
Stemmler netting a late empty net goal to seal the win.
Iron Mullets center Erich Ramirez factored in every Mullets'
point, picking up 2 goals and 2 assists in the game. Brad
Russell picked up 2 assists for the Red Army while Jason
French and Paul Ruddock provided a marker apiece.
The
Red Army then met Probert's Power Powder in the second game
of the night. This one was a real nail biter ending tied
at 3 after regulation time. Jason French of the Red Army
was the only shooter to find the back of the net during
the shootout, patiently outwaiting the ever solid Rick Weldon
of Probert's Power Powder to claim the team's first two
points. Caleb MacIvor of the Red Army potted 2 and added
an assist in the win while Kevin Burns answered his teams'
call with a hat-trick for Probert's Power Powder.
In the
third game, Probert's Power Powder then met the Iron Mullets.
Despite holding a 2-1 lead until near the midway point,
Probert's Power Powder fell by a score of 5-2. Rookie goalie
Aaron D'albey put in a solid performance while the Mullets
benefited from a few strange bounces against Powder goalie
Rick Weldon. Captain Matt Acheson potted two in the Mullets'
second win of the night.
Under
the leadership of veteran captain Matt Acheson, the Iron
Mullets have taken an early lead in the standings, going
2 - 0 in their first two games to claim 4 points. The Red
Army grabbed two points and the Probert's Power Powder are
in hot pursuit with one point.
Red
Army and Probert's Power Powder will be looking for some
payback in Round Two which gets underway in Cheongju Saturday,
March 20 at 8:30 PM.

goalie Rick Weldon set a DCIHL record last night by becoming
the first DCIHL goalie to post two shut-outs in one night.

The Daejeon Eagles, hampered by the absence of some of their
top players, had a rough night, losing both games and only
notching one goal.
